Girls Islamic Organisation, T&O held its state-wide, ‘Haya Campaign’ in February to create awareness on the subject of modesty and righteousness among students and young women. The idea was to enlighten the students about the wider meaning of being a modest Muslimah.
In today’s fast declining social and cultural morality, growing indecency, infiltration of western ideology in the society, and the misconceptions of women in Islam; Girls Islamic Organisation, took the initiative to advocate the student population the teachings of Islam on modesty and the positive impact it has on both individual and collective lives.
The campaign started off with a series of Tarbiyah speeches on modesty lectured in various schools, colleges and universities across the state, followed by concluding programs at respective zones and districts. The districts of Karimnagar, Hamnakonda, Warrangal, Sangareddy, etc. also witnessed an impressive demonstration of the subject. The Program held at Karimnagar was presided by the newly elected State President. It was later folllowed by an Islamic Exhibition.
Addressing the two City gatherings at Sayeed Function Hall, Sayeedabad, and Mahboob Mansion Function Hall, Mehdipatnam, the City President reminded the young girls, about the dangers of following the nafs and ignoring the commandments of Allahs for one’s own pleasure. “A Muslimah keeps Allah’s commands her priority when stepping out of her home.” She further emphasized the worrying fashionable trends of hijab which are becoming style statements and fads thereby, ruining the purpose for which hijab is worn. The moral and ethical atmosphere of educational institutions have also deteriorated.
Haya is an integral part of individual well-being and for maintaining smooth functioning of a society. Women cannot be measured merely by their outward beauty and physical appearances. It would be catastrophic and demeaning if women are deprived of their rights and equality by making them mere toys for men. Intellect, Taqwa and Righteousness is what truly empowers women. The Giant industries and the corporate media, for their own predatory interests, have in every respect changed the definition of women empowerment and how we perceive gender equality. “Hijab is not an obstacle for women empowerment rather its an obstacle for these industries especially the cosmetic industries, said one of the speakers; as it will cause a huge blow to their businesses.” Women need to truly understand the concept of equality and empowering themselves with right ideologies, beliefs and principles.
Statistics show a gruesome picture of women exploitation, female feticide, low education levels, poor healthcare for women in not just India but around the world. It is high time that awareness is created among the masses about the appropriate methods by which women can be given a respectable and equal status in the society.
