As I sat alone with no work to do and feeling despondent, I saw my mum wash a stole and drip-dry it. It was then, when I recollected a small but one of the most unforgettable moments of my life…
In my school, I was known to be one of the boldest child, who rarely cried. But it was in Grade 7,when, due to some unexpected reason I broke down and left the class without my teacher’s permission. After I refreshed and was getting back to the class, I saw my teacher standing in my way. I bowed my head in guilt. Both my face and eyes were wet. My teacher came closer and wiped off the water from my face with her stole.. I was taken aback by such an informal behaviour. We both stood there without uttering a word. She then spoke of my unruly behaviour and advised me not to get along with such an attitude. Offering me a free ride of valuable encouraging words, which not just provided relief, but also gave me courage to face the class once again, she said that she was proud to have me as her student. I was awestruck on receiving such an unsolicited praise. I didn’t know if it was genuine, I don’t even know it now.. But as I look back on this incident, I know that the smile that it brought on my gloomy face and pleasure in my melancholic mood was truly genuine.
I realized how goodness of character can brighten a person’s life. I came to know that the dazzling light from the sun and the man made bulbs could brighten the atmosphere and the body.. But the illumination of soul is impossible without the goodness of character.
I made a resolution that I’d build up my character in such a way that it has the potential in it to brighten someone’s life..
Just like my teacher did..! 🙂
